Wine
There are many different types of wine that are made around the world, but they all share one characteristic, they are made from fermented grapes. The variety of grapes used can vary widely from region to region, but they are all selected for their taste and color. They may not taste good right off the vine, but they can still make an excellent wine.
Wine is classified by its grape, region and vineyard. The grape is the most popular method of designation. Merlot, chardonnay, shiraz, pinot noir, and cabernet sauvignon are all grape varieties. In Europe, many wines are classified by their region such as Chianti, Champagne, and Bordeaux. Blended wines get even more elaborate names that are often trademarked such as “Meritage”, a blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot that is often combine with a small percentage of other varieties.
Wine has been enjoyed since the dawn of civilization partly because of how easy it is to make. Not only is it easy to make, only grapes and yeast are needed, but it has many beneficial health effects (besides drunkenness). Red wines are known to have anti-oxidants which promote overall health and well-being, and alcohol is known social lubricant, especially wine.
