French Wine
Some of the most prestigious and delicious wines in the world are French wines. It is also one of the oldest winemaking regions in the world, with most popular grape varieties coming from France. These include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc which are now grown around the world.
34% of all wine produced in the world is French wine. Only Italy and Spain come close to amount of wine made and land devoted to vineyards. The wine is France is made to very high and strict standards, according to rules that have been practiced for thousands of years but were finally established, written down and agreed upon in 1935. Theses rules control the winemaking practices to a certain extent, making sure that sustainable and good wines are made every year.
French wine covers all types of wines from red, rose and white to fortified, sparkling and dessert wines. Most grapes are produced in certain regions such as Sauvignon Blanc in Bordeaux giving them more of a regional flavor, as opposed to a national flavor. Each wine varies greatly from region to region, and each is used for specific wines.
